Steffani is the Director and Lead Educator for Homeschooling in Nature. She’s an experienced field biologist, naturalist, researcher, and educator. Best of all - she LOVES connecting children with nature! Full of energy and enthusiasm, Ms. Steffani implements a child-centric, inquiry-driven learning approach that fosters curiosity, discovery, and nature stewardship. Kids under her wing develop positive environmental attitudes, great appreciation for nature, improve academic achievement, build self-confidence, and develop a sense of place.

Outdoor Learning Teaching Assistant

Katie brings both heart and science to her work with children. She studied Cognitive Science with an emphasis in anthropology and evolution, and has over seven years of experience working with young learners. Her background includes seven years of teaching swim lessons and two years as an educational coach and tutor, where she supported language development, reading skills, and critical thinking for learners of all ages.

A passionate wildlife photography enthusiast, Katie is endlessly curious about the natural world and loves helping children build meaningful connections with nature throughout San Diego County. Her favorite part of teaching is nurturing children’s curiosity, confidence, and sense of wonder as they explore the outdoors. Katie is known for her warmth, patience, and calm, encouraging presence — creating learning environments where every child feels supported, capable, and inspired to discover.

Outdoor Learning Teaching Assistant

Summer studied outdoor education in college, inspired by her deep love of nature and a passion for helping others connect with the natural world. An enthusiastic hiker and backpacker, she has also worked with conservation organizations dedicated to protecting natural habitats. As a certified urban gardener, she enjoys combining practical skills with her commitment to environmental stewardship. She’s been part of the Homeschooling in Nature community since December 2023, where she continues to grow her experience in nature-based education. Her favorite part of working with children is building their confidence—both in themselves and in their ability to explore and appreciate their local environment. Her gentle demeanor, organization skills and kindness makes her a favorite among students.
